Guatemala Since being freed from Spanish rule in the 1820's, Guatemala has had a variety of governments, both military and civilian. In 1996, the government signed a peace agreement ending a 36-year civil war that left over 1 million refugees and 100,000 dead. Today Guatemala boasts a population of 12.6 million people and an area roughly equal to the state of Tennessee. With three-fourths of the population living below poverty level, it is sadly the children who suffer most. The dedicated people of Casa Para Ninos Aleluya have worked together to feed, clothe, educate and love children of Guatemala. Since 1996, LCC has worked with Triumphant Missions based out of Casa Para Ninos Aleluya to make a significant difference in the lives for hundreds of children. Located in the outskirts of Guatemala City, ministry extends into many other areas of the country through churches located in distant towns and villages. |
